What is the Associate Personal Financial Planner (APFP)?

APFP is a professional designation awarded by IFPHK which recognizes practitioners who meet the basic knowledge for financial planning.
 
 
 
Who should consider APFP?

Those looking to gain immediate recognition from their peers, clients and employers of their qualifications as financial planners, and to show their commitment to continual improvement by fulfilling Continuing Education requirements, should apply for APFP.
 
 
 
What qualifications do I need for APFP?

APFP applicants must:

  • Successfully complete two modules of the IFPHK Registered CFPCM Certification Education Program which must include the Foundation of Financial Planning (Module 1) OR possess qualified credentials OR possess overseas CFP certification.

  • Possess the following number of years of relevant work experence and  corresponding education requirement:

    • 2 years for degree holders    OR

    • 4 years for non-degree holders who have a minimum of 5 passes in HKCEE    OR

    • 5 years for applicants who have completed Form 5 education.

  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility of IFPHK.

  • Acquire 10 hours of Continuing Education credit per year.

How much does APFP cost?

An application fee of HK$300, annual fee of HK$600 (the first year annual fee is reduced to HK$300 if you apply after 1st July).

 
 
 
Can I use the APFP designation on my name cards?

You can use this title on your name cards if you have attained the APFP designation (you can indicate “APFP” plus “IFPHK Associate Member” on your business cards as free Associate Membership of IFPHK will be granted to APFP holders)

 
 
 
Do I have to be a Student Member in order to apply for APFP?

You do not have to be a Student Member to apply for APFP. Once approved as an APFP, you will automatically become an Associate Member of IFPHK.

 
 
 
What is the difference between CFP and APFP?

The CFPCM certification is the highest standard which is recognized by the financial planning profession worldwide. Practitioners who are studying to attain the CFPCM certification are recommended to apply for the APFP designation once they qualify for it. This would help both their clients and employers recognize for their professional standing and experience in the financial planning industry.
